Music Director and Principal Conductor of Macao Chinese Orchestra. Currently, Mr. Zhang Lie is the Music Director and Principal Conductor of Nanjing Chinese Orchestra and Henan Chinese Orchestra. He is a famous conductor in China and has been named Top Performer by the Ministry of Culture. He is the Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Professional Committee of Conductors and a National Class One Conductor. He once served as the Resident Conductor of China Broadcasting Film Symphony Orchestra and China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, as well as the Music Director and Principal Conductor of Zhejiang Chinese Orchestra, Guangdong National Orchestra, and Shaanxi Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra. He was the Artistic Adviser and Guest Conductor of many academic institutes and music organisations, such as Central Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Symphony Orchestra and Shaanxi Symphony Orchestra. In his early years, he graduated from Xi’an Conservatory of Music and further studied in the Conducting Department of Central Conservatory of Music. In addition to studying under Prof. Liu Jing, Prof. Feng Qi and Prof. Yang Hongnian, he also benefited from the coaching of Prof. Hans-Dieter Baum of Germany in a conducting master class, where he received insightful advice and was warmly praised.
In recent years, Mr. Zhang has led various orchestras to successfully perform in more than 30 countries, such as European countries (including Russia), the United States, Canada and Japan. He also won awards from the Ministry of Culture of China. He was invited to be an adjudicator for many competitions, including two editions of All Malaysia Chinese Instrumental Music Competition, the Support Programme for the Creation of Chinese Orchestral Music of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and two editions of CCTV Chinese Instrumental Competition.
As a composer, he has composed more than a hundred works for various performing art forms, spanning music for orchestra, dance drama, film and television, Chinese orchestra, concertos, vocal, which have become parts of the repertoire of symphony orchestras and Chinese orchestras around the world, and have won numerous awards. Some of his notable works in recent years are “Guanshan Caprice”, “Camel Bells in Western Regions”, “The Northern” and symphonic dance dramas “Song of the Wind” and “Song of Eternal Sorrow”, etc. Among them, “Xiao Ba Lang Fantasy”, “The Boat Trackers of the Yellow River”, “The Female Generals of Yang” won National Class One Awards and Gold Awards, while “On Jujube Hill” won the Golden Angel Award at the Chinese American Film Festival.
