This season marking the 35th anniversary of the Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM) is of great significance. OCHM is honored to have invited internationally renowned conductor, Mr. Tsung Yeh, to be its Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Adviser. Maestro Yeh has meticulously curated a series of wonderful concerts to celebrate the orchestra’s 35th anniversary season, bringing great aural enjoyment to music fans. Among these, “National Art Troupes Season in Macao 2023|Everlasting Joy of Heaven and Earth: Chinese Festivals” and “Sounds of an Era: Concert Featuring Doming Lam Works” – both conducted by Maestro Yeh – are two paramount concerts of this season. The two events are highly representative, for its significance and content, and thus have been a great success.
With society returning to normal, OCHM under the leadership of Maestro Tsung Yeh presented high quality performances, gaining once again the public’s preference and recognition. His extraordinary conducting skills have helped the orchestra improve its performance standards as an ensemble, and with his rigorous stance towards artistic excellence the maestro has positively inspired OCHM musicians. In terms of the artistic administration at the orchestra, Maestro Yeh has selflessly given valuable advice, bringing in brand-new prospects for its overall development.
However, the post-pandemic surge in demand for the arts has brought to Maestro Yeh many and varied work opportunities, ranging from the conducting of symphonies, Chinese music and operas to high-level artistic teaching and art consulting, as well as creative arts development. On top of these also the need for more time for family and international travel. Factoring in all these, after the maestro’s prudent considerations and consultation with the Macao Orchestra Company, Ltd. (MOC), we regret to announce that Maestro Tsung Yeh will step down as Chief Guest Conductor and Artistic Adviser of the Macao Chinese Orchestra at the end of this month.
We sincerely thank Maestro Yeh for having set brilliant chapters of the Macao Chinese Orchestra’s 35th anniversary season. At end of the month, the maestro will interpret, in OCHM’s season closing concert, “Three Kingdoms and The Dream of the Red Chamber”, and two symphonic poems, “Red Cliff” and “The Dream of the Red Chamber”, pieces beaming with Chinese literate charm. A full orchestra and a great lineup will certainly make for a memorable musical night.
MOC and all members of the Macao Chinese Orchestra would like to express our deepest respect to Maestro Tsung Yeh, and sincerely thank him for his directing. We wish Maestro Yeh even more success in his musical career and a beautiful life surrounded by agreeable melodies.
