Cantonese opera, also known as “grand opera”, is a traditional genre of opera sung in Cantonese. It originated in the Zaju of the Yuan dynasty and developed during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It integrates various traditional opera techniques and has high artistic value as a precious treasure for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region.
In this crossover collaboration between Chinese music and Cantonese opera, the leading figure Zeng Xiaomin and famous artists will bring us excerpts from “Sweet Girl” and “The White Snake Legend”, exploring the essences of Cantonese opera.
In 2006, it was placed on the first batch of the national list of non-material heritage and in 2009, on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Lists.
