Chew Hee Chiat, the Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM) in the new season, will lead the orchestra in a wide range of splendid Chinese music pieces. In this concert, Chew and OCHM will show you the vitality of Chinese music ensembles of different eras, from “The Terra Cotta Warriors” Fantasia, a masterpiece by Peng Xiuwen, and a new commission by Hong Kong composer Ng Cheuk-yin. Renowned local Cantonese opera artist Chu Chan Wa and his disciple, Mok Weng Lam, will team up with the Macao Chinese Orchestra to present Death of a Princess on the Moon, from Princess Changping, a work fusing elements of Cantonese opera written by Hong Kong composer Ng King Pan. Zhang Yueru, the Concertmaster of OCHM, will be the soloist in the Gaohu concerto – Autumn Moon over a Placid Lake. The orchestra will also perform A Silent Prayer by Macao-born composer Doming Lam, who passed away earlier this year, in memory of the master. Featuring a repertoire of both traditional and modern styles, the season opening concert is a must for Chinese music fans!
